June 2, 2022
Flaherty firefighter Lloyd Claycomb was collecting money for charity when an ambulance that was hit by a car rolled over and struck him.

An ambulance struck a Flaherty firefighter who was taking part in a roadside fundraising activity Tuesday.

The ambulance was responding to a call when it was struck by a vehicle and rolled over, striking firefighter Lloyd Claycomb and then it collided with a pickup truck on Joe Prather Parkway in Ekron.

WHAS11.com reported that Claycomb, a longtimer volunteer firefighter, was collecting donations for Crusade for Children.

Officials said Claycomb was unconscious at the scene and was one of two who were flown to the hospital for treatment.

"Lloyd's in good spirits, he's just in a lot of pain,"  Flaherty Fire Chief Roger Rose told the television station. "I can relax a little bit more, but I still know I have to go back there today. And it doesn't matter what time, I'm going to check on my firefighter."

The full of extent of his injuries is not known.
