July 20, 2022
At least nine Boston firefighters suffered heat exhaustion at a five-alarm fire inside multiple East Boston triple-decker homes Tuesday evening.

Boston Fire Commissioner Paul Burke said at least nine firefighters were injured, primarily due to the heat, while battling a five-alarm fire inside multiple East Boston triple-decker homes Tuesday evening.

WCVB 5 reported that first responders rushed to the scene in the 300 block of Princeton Street amid temperatures in the low 90s.

"The heat has been a problem today," Burke Buke told WCVB. "We've had to circulate firefighters in and out because the heat is so bad."

Burke said the fire burnt through the staircase in the first building, making accessing the blaze difficult.

"The first arriving firefighters went through their oxygen tanks real fast," Burke said. "They were they were overheated very quick, so it was important to get relief."

Boston fire said on social media that three triple-decker homes were affected, with fire inside 316 Princeton Street spreading to 314 and 318 Princeton Street.

A total of 20 adults and eight children were displaced by the fire.

No residents were hurt.
