An Arizona firefighter found dead in his station in June died of an overdose, a toxicology report shows.
Shane Godbehere, 36, died in his sleep June 11 while working at Sun City's Station 131.
Among the drugs found in his system included fentanyl, oxycodone, cocaine and other amphetamines, 12News reported.
His death was officially ruled an accidental drug overdose from acute polydrug toxicity.
Officials said it's not uncommon for first responders to not only struggle with mental health but not seek the help they need.
"It's an issue firefighters in Arizona have also seen. "Unfortunately it's been something we've struggled with for decades," United Phoenix Firefighters president Bryan Willingham told reporters.
Daily stress firefighters endure add up over the years.
Mental health programs have increased across the country in recent years. "We try to really focus on reducing the stigma. We make it okay for someone to raise their hand and say, 'hey I have a problem.'"
Godbehere's fiancé said in a statement to the media that he suffered from depression and mental health issues.
Also, he had been hospitalized for COVID and pneumonia which she said "had extreme effects on his neurological health."
