OH FFs Deliver Baby in Ambulance

Sept. 14, 2022
Vienna Fire Department Captain Matt Gordon and Firefighter Mark Haddle shared the "amazing" experience.

On Tuesday night, baby Louis got to meet the men who delivered him.

Vienna Fire Department Captain Matt Gordon and Firefighter Mark Haddle came bearing gifts for the baby they delivered in the back of an ambulance.

“A lot of people think that delivering a baby is this great thing in an ambulance. It’s actually one of my least favorite calls to run and we’ve been kidding about it and then it happened,” Gordon told WKBN.

Louis' mom, Heather Sizemore, called 9-1-1 when she started not feeling right. Louis wasn't due for another month, but Sizemore knew he was ready.

“The firefighter said, ‘Let me know when you’re having another contraction,’ and I said, ‘I feel him, right now,'” Sizemore said.

In the back of an ambulance, baby Louis was welcomed into the world. A month early, but healthy — weighing 5 pounds, 2 ounces.

On Tuesday, the firefighters presented Louis with a special gift.

“We got Louie his own fire department uniform,” Haddle said.

In return, Chief Richard Brannon had the parents present special pins to the two firefighters.

“I finally got a stork pin,” Gordon said.
