A Fairfax County police officer narrowly escaped being struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop Monday.
The officer, who was talking to the driver through the passenger's side window, had little time to react as he saw the car sliding sideways through the median.
After the collision, the officer called for help for the drivers and the passengers in the striking car on his radio. He suffered minor injuries, WUSA9 reported from a press conference Tuesday.
The black 2018 BMW M3 that caused the crash was driven by a 17-year-old going over 120 miles per hour, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said.
"It was a rocket and then it became a missile," he said.
The teen driver, his passengers and the operator of the stopped vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The chief said the officer decision to stand on the passenger's side of the vehicle along the highway saved his life.
The teen driver is facing numerous charges.
