Fallen NY FF's Daughter Throws First Pitch at Minor League Game
The daughter of fallen Buffalo Firefighter Jason Arno threw out the first pitch at a minor league baseball game this weekend.
The crowd cheered and wiped away tears as Olivia made her way to the pitcher's mound at the Bison's game, WIVB reported.
Arno was killed after he was struck by debris while battling a fire in downtown Buffalo in March.
Proceeds from Saturday’s game were donated to the non-profit, Firefighter Arno Memorial Foundation (FAMF). which provides resources, financial support, and opportunities for Western New York first responders and their families by fundraising as well as increasing community awareness of their daily efforts.
“Jason was so proud to be from Buffalo,” said Michael Forero, FAMF vice president. "He was so proud to be a Buffalo firefighter. So, when he became a firefighter, he wanted to give back to the community. And this is our opportunity to give back to the community, and this is our opportunity to continue his legacy, and give back to the community that he ultimately sacrificed his life for.”
Delton Arno, Jason's brother who walked Oliva onto the field said: “It brought tears to my eyes. All the support that comes from the team and seeing the FAM Foundation’s banner on that giant screen was enough for me.”
