A Polk County Fire Rescue paramedic seriously injured in an ambulance crash earlier this month was met with applause as he left a hospital Wednesday.
On Dec. 8, Paramedic John Parris was treating a patient when the ambulance and a pickup collided on U.S. 27 in Haines City.
The patient and Parris suffered serious injuries.
Fellow firefighters, EMTs and medics as well as hospital staff and citizens applauded, cheered and offered encouragement as Parris left for his next step in his recovery, a rehabilitation center.
