Listen: Collapse Leads to Mayday for Firefighters Trapped in Steele Creek, NC, House

Firefighters called mayday several times before Steele Creek command acknowledged them after a stairwell collapsed.

Two firefighters became trapped in a house fire Wednesday night in Steele Creek.

One had minor injuries, while the other had serious injuries but was in medically stable condition, WCNC reported. 

The firefighters became trapped during a collapse. One was pinned for an extended period of time before crews were able to free him.

Information on the firefighters' department was not released as the investigation continued.
