A Massachusetts National Guard member stationed in Kuwait was injured in an Iranian drone strike that killed six American service members.
Army National Guard Major Mark Garcia was hurt during the March 1 strike and is recovering overseas, Gov. Maura Healey said in a speech to the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, according to WCVB.
On March 1, Iranian drones attacked a U.S. presence at the Shuaiba port outside Kuwait City. Six military members were killed and dozens were injured.
Garcia is a Boston firefighter, according to Boston 25 News.
The Boston firefighters’ union released a statement wishing for Garcia’s recovery and return to the U.S.
“As a member of Local 718, Mark serves our City and Union with dedication and, as a member of the Armed Forces, he serves America with conviction,” the statement read. “We are thankful that Mark is safe and being cared for, and we look forward to his return home.”
