Just four years after reentering the tractor drawn aerial market with the SLTDA 105, Sutphen Corporation is now debuting a new addition to their family of aerials, the SLTDA 101.
The new apparatus offers a unique, shorter configuration that maintains the capabilities of a tractor drawn aerial while allowing for unmatched flexibility in tight spaces and various customizable options.
The first SLTDA 101 has been purchased by the Asheville Fire Department in Asheville, NC and is slated to be completed later this year.
“This unit is extremely special; not only is this Sutphen’s first SLTDA 101, but this will also be the Asheville Fire Department’s first Sutphen apparatus,” said Adam Bordeaux, vice president of First Choice Fire & Safety, Sutphen’s official North Carolina dealer. “It has been an honor to collaborate with both Sutphen and the Asheville Fire Department on this unit.”
The Asheville Fire Department holds an ISO Class-1 rating and operates out of 13 fire stations throughout the city of nearly 100,000 residents. In addition to their new SLTDA 101, the department also has two custom pumpers on order.
With an overall apparatus length coming in between 55’ – 9” and 57’ – 4”, depending on options, the SLTDA 101 offers 101 feet of vertical reach and options for up to 430 cubic feet of compartment space.
Conversely, the SLTDA 105 offers 105 feet of vertical reach, options that allow for up to 620 cubic feet of compartment space, and measures in at an overall apparatus length ranging from 59’ – 4” and 61’.
While the body and aerial device vary between the SLTDA 101 and 105, all Sutphen TDAs are equipped with the largest tiller cab on the market, a trainer seat within the tiller cab and aerial bodies that can be fitted with high side or low side body compartments.
The development of the SLTDA 101 came after a thorough and intentional evaluation of feedback gathered from fire departments across the nation.
“At Sutphen, our mission for the last 136 years has been to provide the safest, most reliable fire apparatus on the market through innovation and customer focus. Expanding our product line with this new apparatus is the true embodiment of our core values as a family-owned and operated organization,” said Director of Sales and Marketing, Zach Rudy.
