Spanish Fork Station 62 was designed as a civic landmark for the city, which is seeing unprecedented growth. Having the largest geographic response area in the state, the Spanish Fork Fire Department will rely on Station 62 to reduce response times by at least 50 percent compared with previous times. The 14,700-square-foot station was designed to transition the current department from an on-call volunteer force to a full-time facility, providing dormitory rooms for seven firefighters, a training room, an exercise room, a commercial kitchen and a dayroom. Additionally, a police office is located at the station, which provides an auxiliary reporting space.

Station 62 was conceived as both a machine for firefighter response as well as a comforting respite that prioritizes firefighter wellness. The floor plan was designed to minimize footsteps, particularly from the most challenging situation: a firefighter who must respond to a call that occurs during sleep hours. Dormitory rooms are oriented parallel and immediately adjacent to the bays, which provides the shortest path of travel to the apparatus. The layout also minimizes Hot Zone and Cold Zone cross-contamination by providing a sequence of decontamination spaces that are adjacent to the bays as well as airlock vestibules in the fire station proper, where hand, boot and eye wash stations are located to help to mitigate pathogen migration.

Design amenities are provided throughout to help the crew to decompress after returning from a call, with larger areas for social gathering and private dormitory rooms for quiet relaxation. Views are carefully framed to highlight nearby features, including the adjacent Wasatch Front Mountain Range. A north-facing courtyard provides the firefighters with a private area for dining and socialization.
