Coldenham, NY, Fire Station Destroyed; Rigs Damaged by Flames
The Coldenham fire station was destroyed by flames, and several firefighters were injured getting the apparatus out.
Firefighters found heavy fire showing from the bay and ran into to retrieve rigs that would be of assistance in battling the fire, according to a statement from Orange County Department of Emergency Services.
Five firefighters, who suffered smoke inhalation and other injuries, were treated at a local hospital and released.
A photo showed a hose hooked up to a damaged rig.
Orange County 9-1-1 dispatchers received a fire alarm from the station at 3:11 a.m.
Firefighters from mutual aid companies across the county not only responded to the incident but have made offers of apparatus and equipment.
The cause is under investigation.
