Sleeping Firefighter Struck, Killed by NY Ambulance

A 22-year-old Port Jervis firefighter who was sleeping in front of an ambulance bay was run over and killed when a unit was departing Sunday morning.

A 22-year-old New York firefighter who was sleeping in front of an ambulance bay was run over and killed when a unit was departing on a response early Sunday morning.

Mid Hudson News reports that the unidentified man, who was struck when an ambulance was pulling out of its bay around 5:50 a.m., was rushed to a hospital where he died.

Port Jervis Police, the Orange County District Attorney's Office, and the medical examiner's officer are investigating the incident.

According to its website, the Port Jervis Ambulance Corps "provides basic life support emergency medical services to not only the City of Port Jervis but also to the entire Town of Deerpark and, when requested, to our neighbors in Sullivan County (NY), Sussex County (NJ), & Pike County (PA)."
