Crews on Call When Gunfire Strikes IL Station
A crew of Illinois firefighters returning to quarters after a call this past weekend discovered that gunfire had damaged their station.
Champaign Firefighters Local 1260 posted the details on Facebook after the incident at Fire Station 1 happened just after midnight Sunday.
Crews were returning to the station after wrapping up a fire call and found that gunfire from a shootout had pierced apparatus bay windows and damaged the structure in several places. No firefighters were injured.
"It is like this happened in our home, and all of us in here we are family," Matt Quinlan, executive board member of Local 1260, told WCCU News. "Thank goodness it just hit the station and didn't hit one of us, because that night we ran a lot of calls, so anytime there was 10 people walking throughout the station."
