Nov. 10, 2023
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were issued across seven categories of facilities in this prestigious competition:

Fort Atkinson, WI, November 10, 2023—Firehouse Magazine announced the winners of its 10th annual Station Design Awards program, which recognizes outstanding architecture and design from fire departments and emergency facilities nationwide.

Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were issued across seven categories of facilities in this prestigious competition: Career 1 and 2, Satellite, Volunteer/Combination, Shared, Public Safety Training, and Renovation. All 64 participating entries will be published in the November issue of Firehouse Magazine and online at Firehouse.com/Stations.

Peter Matthews, Firehouse editor-in-chief said, “In the 10 years since Firehouse has held the Station Design Awards, the efforts to improve living and working areas for firefighters have improved tenfold. Through the Station Design Conference and publication of the Station Design Awards, fire departments are better educated and prepared for their planning process with the architects and builders to understand current conditions and prepare for future factors that are critical in the day-to-day operations of every community’s first line of defense while taking care of the people who work there.”

According to Janet Wilmoth, special projects director to Firehouse, “Every entry in the 2023 Station Design Awards is a winner for its improvement in health and safety for personnel and the services they provide their community.”

Trends this year included not only designated decontamination areas but also a priority on natural lighting in living areas and fitness areas.

Winners were selected by a panel of six judges, including fire chiefs and architects experienced in recent design and construction.
