Man Cuts AL Fire Captain, Threatens Other FFs with Knife

A Mobile fire captain was injured by a man with a knife who came to the department's South Lafayette Street station and threatened firefighters before fleeing.

A man cut a fire captain and threatened other firefighters with a knife while at a station early Monday.

The incident happened at about 3:30 a.m. at the Mobile Fire Rescue Department station on South Lafayette Street, WKRG-TV reports. When Ronald Hurd, 61, arrived at the firehouse, he threatened a firefighter with a knife, according to police.

A fire captain intervened, and he was cut on the hand. Hurd then allegedly threatened another firefighter before fleeing the station.

Police eventually were able to find and arrest him. He is charged with assault, menacing and drug possession, according to WKRG.
