Several States Experience 9-1-1 Outages

Sept. 29, 2020
Arizona, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada and Ohio recently suffered disruptions in their 9-1-1 systems, and the cause of the outages isn't known.

Several states experienced an outage in 9-1-1 systems Monday night.

The temporary outage affected systems in Arizona, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada and Ohio, Newsweek reports. It's not yet known what caused the disruption in service, which lasted for just less than an hour.

The outage happened just after 7 p.m., WNBC-TV reports. Systems were restored by around 8:15 p.m.

At the same time, Microsoft suffered an outage of its 365 Cloud services, according to Newsweek. It's not clear if there is a connection between this incident and the disruption of 9-1-1 services.

This isn't the first time the United States has seen 9-1-1 outages. A disruption happened in 2018 when an outage at telecommunications company CenturyLink prevented around 22 million customers in 39 states from calling 9-1-1 for more than 24 hours.
