Called Firestars, the new helicopters for Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue are outfitted with new lifesaving features, including state-of-the-art components and a whole blood supply.

A Florida fire agency has two new, upgraded tools to use on medical emergencies.

The twin Eurcopter EC135 helicopters will be used by Broward Sheriff Office Fire Rescue for EMS calls, WPLG-TV reports. Called Firestars, the helicopters come outfitted with new lifesaving features and state-of-the-art technology.

Each aircraft has been retrofitted with a Night Sun search light and a Fleer camera. They also will carry whole blood for use on trauma calls.

The helicopters carry a three-person crew. The pilot and co-pilot sit up front, and a paramedic is in the back to treat a patient while they're in the air.

BSO Fire Rescue has already used the helicopters in the field. Last month, one of the Firestars was used to take a dog bite victim in Coral Springs.
