A Houston firefighter apologized to resident after making an insensitive Facebook post regarding a fire at their house Sunday.
Everyone made it out of the home safely, and moments later, a family friend sent Mickey Reed a screenshot of his home on fire with the words, “Staying warm this morning. District 20.” The person who posted it, Reed says, is a Houston firefighter, according to Click2Houston.
Reed said the post added insult to injury and expressed that the firefighter is a representative of the Houston Fire Department and that social media posts like that are downright rude, and uncalled for.
“Underneath, later in the comments, he posted about how tender the brisket must be. As I said, it’s adding insult to injury. In a matter of minutes, my family lost everything, Reed told the television station.
Reed and family members contacted the firefighter who apologized and removed the post, adding that they wanted the firefighter to understand one needs to take the victim's feelings into account while they are suffering from a traumatic event.
“This is much bigger than just him because if he’s doing things like this, how many are? At no point was it ever a matter of ‘we want him fired or we want him reprimanded.’ We want him to understand that you need to take into account people’s feelings and consideration of what they’re going through and the tragedy they are going through,” Reed said.
