City Won't Pay for Door Dallas Firefighters Kicked in by Mistake

Denying the $4,100 claim, Dallas city said it's the firefighters' responsibility.
Sept. 12, 2025

Dallas firefighters who kicked in the wrong door looking for a patient apologized and assured the homeowner the city would fix the damage.

But, that didn't happen.

Firefighters were supposed to be at a nursing facility located behind the house, CBS Dallas reported.

Despite the assurance from firefighters, the city has turned down the woman's request for $4,100 to replace the double doors.

"The lady returned my phone call, and she said, 'No, ma'am, that's the firemen's responsibility,'" she added.

Attorney Jeremy Rosenthal, who was not involved in the case, said: "The city can still take responsibility for this. Just because they can try to hide behind the Texas Tort Claims Act here doesn't mean that that's the right thing to do. This is the very definition of a runaround."
