Nov. 20--A motorcyclist suffered a head injury after crashing into a turning firetruck in Tavares on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The motorcyclist was in a group of bikers following the fire truck on State Route 19 southbound when the crash occurred, said Lt. Jason Paynter. The fire truck, which had lights and sirens on, slowed in the right lane at the intersection with Citrus Avenue to make a left turn. The motorcycle continued in the left lane and hit the left front side of the firetruck in the turn lane, Paynter said. The crash occurred about 12:45 p.m., he said.

The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered head trauma and was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was later reported to be conscious and coherent, Paynter said. His identity was not immediately available. None of the firefighters were injured.
