OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A motorcyclist and his passenger suffered serious injuries Tuesday, Aug. 11, in a collision with an Olive Township fire truck, state police said.

The motorcyclist, a 34-year-old Wyoming man, was airlifted by Aero Med helicopter from the scene in Olive Township and taken to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital.

The passenger, a 17-year-old Grand Rapids male, was taken to Holland Hospital then Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. at Tyler Street and 136th Avenue. The fire truck, driven by an 18-year-old West Olive man, was traveling west on Tyler Street when the driver turned left in front of the eastbound Honda motorcycle.

The operator of the motorcycle was ejected and struck the windshield of the fire truck.

Both riders of the motorcycle wore helmets. State police did not say where the fire truck was headed.

State police and Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies are investigating.
