Boston Aerial Ladder Suffers 'Catastrophic Failure' During Fire

April 12, 2018
Boston firefighters were battling a two-alarm fire when sections of Tower Ladder 10's aerial ladder split.

No injuries were reported Wednesday night when a mid-mount aerial platform collapsed at fire in Boston Wednesday evening.

Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn called the incident a "catastrophic failure" of the ladder truck, according to WCVB.

A firefighter was in the bucket, which was about two feet above the roof, when the sections of the aerial ladder split.

Fire officials said the firefighter was able to climb on to the roof, where the platform came to rest, and he was uninjured.

Finn told the television station that the 13-year-old was a reserve apparatus and had undergone regular maintenance.

A crane was used to bring the aerial ladder down to the street and investigators are looking into the cause of the incident.

The two-alarm fire displaced 15 residents.
