A crash between apparatus from two different departments responding to a house fire injured three firefighters Thursday afternoon.

A pumper from the Owls Head Fire Department and a St. George Fire Department vehicle collided along a road in St. George, Courier Publications in Knox County reports. The accident sent the St. George apparatus into a ditch and rolled the Owls Head pumper on its side.

Two Owls Head firefighters were traveling in the pumper, with the driver suffering a head injury and the passenger suffering back and neck injuries. Both were taken to a hospital in Rockport as a precaution, but the passenger was later airlifted to a trauma center.

The St. George vehicle only had a driver, and that firefighter also was taken to the Rockport hospital as a precaution.

A witness told Courier Publications that both vehicles were traveling in the opposite directions when one of the apparatus swerved to avoid a car that had stopped where the road curves.
