IL Firefighter Hospitalized after Ambulance, Snow Plow Collide

A Marengo Fire Protection District ambulance was responding to a call when it struck the rear bumper of a snow plow and crashed into a snow bank.

An Illinois firefighter was taken to the hospital after an ambulance responding to a call collided with a snow plow over the weekend.

The incident involving a Marengo Fire Protection District ambulance happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Coral Township in unincorporated McHenry County, Lake & McHenry County Scanner reports. The ambulance had its lights and sirens on as it approached an intersection on the way to a vehicle crash with injuries.

At the intersection, the ambulance struck the rear bumper of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 with a snowplow and drove into a snow bank. The crash damaged the front of the ambulance, but both vehicles were able to drive away from the scene.

A 24-year-old firefighter in the ambulance's front passenger seat was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. No citations were issued in the incident.
