A Baltimore man who called 9-1-1 saying that he was suffering from a heart attack allegedly stole a responding ambulance and drove himself to the hospital, according to authorities.
At around 1:20 a.m. on Monday morning, the Baltimore City Fire Department Medical Unit responded to a call to a private residence. While EMS crews were inside the home on Seagull Ave., the 38-year-old hopped into the ambulance that was running without keys inside the vehicle and started driving.
As the unidentified man approached the MedStar Harbor Hospital, police were able to intercept the ambulance and take the suspect into custody without incident.
While speaking to police, the man reaffirmed that he was indeed having a heart attack and drove himself to the hospital out of necessity. Investigators came to the conclusion that the man was in fact having a “medical crisis.”
No one was injured and no damages were sustained.
It’s unclear if the man will be facing charges.
