A patient who escaped from a local hospital stole a Houston Fire Department ambulance and crashed it before running from police.

An escapee from Memorial Hermann Hospital stole a Houston Fire Department ambulance and crashed it before running from police.

The incident started Tuesday morning when the man asked hospital staff to use a restroom and got into a scuffle with police before escaping and stealing the ambulance.

The chase ended near the 11400 block of Harwin when the suspect apparently stripped off his gown and ran naked to a nearby home, according to a report by KHOU 11.

Law enforcement officials surrounded the home while SWAT negotiators spoke with the suspect. After a standoff, police tased the suspect and used rubber bullets to help bring him under arrest.

A neighbor near the SWAT scene told KHOU 11 they'd seen the suspect before and they think he lives at the home where he was hiding out.
