A San Antonio Fire Department pumper crashed into an apartment building after it was struck by a speeding car late Tuesday.
The incident took place when Engine 27 was responding to a fire call and was struck by a speeding car causing the pumper to veer into the apartment.
When the pumper struck the building, it took out the staircase leading to the second floor, requiring some occupants to be evacuated by fire department ladders, according to KSAT 12.
Seventeen occupants had to be evacuated and are now displaced due to structural stability concerns.
Fire officials said the family in the apartment that was hit had gone to bed a few hours before the incident. If someone had been in the area where the damage took place, things could have been much worse.
No one in the apartment or fire truck sustained any injuries, the occupants from the speeding vehicle fled the scene.
