Man Steals Fire Apparatus, Crashes into Others at Dalton, NH, Scene
While firefighters were battling a fire, the Dalton homeowner jumped into an apparatus and proceeded to crash it into other rigs.
Dalton and Littleton firefighters were taking a defensive position at the house due to heavy fire conditions. They learned no one was inside.
During the operation, a man "commandeered the fire apparatus on the scene and began driving it recklessly around the fireground. The stolen rig struck several emergency response vehicles and personal cars while driving toward firefighters working to control the blaze, creating an extraordinarily dangerous hazard for crews on the scene," according to a statement from Littleton Fire Rescue.
There were no reports of firefighters injured.
The man was taken into custody by New Hampshire State Police, WMUR reported.
The cause of the fire that destroyed the house remains under investigation.
"I’m proud of the work of B Shift and Captain Harvey throughout a busy and challenging shift. The crew handled each incident professionally and worked together to ensure our community remained protected," Littleton Fire Chief Chad Miller said.
