CA Monument to Fallen Firefighters Vandalized

June 16, 2016
Stockton firefighters are dismayed that someone would damage the memorial.

Stockton firefighters are befuddled as to why the memorial honoring their fallen brothers and sisters fell victim to vandals.

"The hallowed ground that is The Fallen Firefighters Memorial was desecrated and graffitied. Spray painted and tagged," IAFF Local 456 wrote on its Facebook page.

"This is an incredible insult to our servicemen who literally put their lives in jeopardy every day; and to the memorial that symbolizes the remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the citizens and City of Stockton," they wrote.

Recruits in the fire academy worked to get the paint off the statues.

The firefighters lauded Stockton Monument for working to restore the memorial in time for fire academy graduation.

A main plaque was stolen recently, and also was replaced.
