Nicholas Leobold has been charged with criminal mischief stemming from the Jan. 25 incident, according to an FDNY statement on social media. Dashboard camera footage released by the department apparently show Leobold pulling the flag from the ambulance.
According to the FDNY, the vehicle was parked at Second Avenue and East 9th Street in Manhattan at around 2:30 p.m. when the vandalism happened. Paramedics returned to the ambulance to find the flag cut in town and tossed on the street, the department said.
FDNY fire marshals arrested Leobold on Wednesday. He has no prior convictions, according to the New York Post.
