Fairfax County Fire and Rescue remembers Captain Kim Schoppa who recently passed from occupational cancer with a mural at Fire Station 24.

A mural in remembrance of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Captain Kim Schoppa who recently passed from occupational cancer covers a wall in Fire Station 24.

Captain Schoppa worked at Station 24, Woodlawn in Mount Vernon as a Lieutenant, the mural at the base of the stairwell is honoring her service.

Schoppa was diagnosed with cancer on March 31, 2021, she was hired as a firefighter in 2004 and served with the department for over 18 years, WJLA 7News reported.

Deputy Chief Tracey Reed, who was one of Schoppa's closest friends, told 7News, Reed Schoppa showed that sense of selflessness even in her final moments of life.
