The JACOBS Kit Initiative has been selected as a State Farm Neighborhood Assist® Top 200 Finalist and needs your votes!
The Berkeley County, SC, Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) needs your help by voting for them to receive a $25,000 grant from State Farm to help improve their community. Starting Aug. 14 at 12:00 a.m. EDT, U.S. residents who are 18 years and older with a valid email address can vote for their favorite cause on the State Farm Neighborhood Assist® website.
The Berkeley County LEPC has until Aug. 23 at 11:59 p.m. EDT to rally votes, and anyone voting is allowed up to 10 votes per day. On Sept. 25, the top 40 vote-receiving causes will be announced on the Neighborhood Assist site, and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to each of the affiliated nonprofits.
The JACOBS Kit Initiative was started in memory of Jacob Hall, a six-year-old boy who died from extensive blood loss following an active shooter event. The JACOB Kit is a trauma kit containing CAT tourniquets, chest seals, bandages, medical gloves, and trauma shears.
The Berkeley County LEPC formed the Stop the Bleed Subcommittee in early 2019. To date, 23 instructors have been trained to teach members of the public on how to use JACOB Kits. With 32 schools in Berkeley County, and nearly 20,000 students, this funding would ensure each school has kits dispersed at appropriate locations throughout each building.
A $25,000 grant would be able to provide 188 JACOB Kits to the community and 17 professional trainer kits for instructors to use during their class.
