Shortly after receiving his diplomas, 17-year-old Peter Rizzo got a text on his phone that there was a structure fire in Port Jefferson.

Rizzo told NBC News that even though he still had his diploma in his hand and was still wearing his graduation gown, he just ran from the field to the firehouse.

Katsumi Layne-Stasik said she was "struggling to take her earrings and necklace off" as she ran from the field still carrying a bouquet of flowers.

Once in uniform, the teens raced to put out a garage fire.
