The surprise ouster of Bradford's longtime fire chief has resulted with the majority of the firefighters hanging up their gear.

Former Fire Chief Ryan Terrill said he was informed last week that he had been replaced. There was no warning or reason.

Terrill, who as been with the department for two decades and at the helm for the last 12, was stunned to hear the news, WCAX reported.

He and 10 firefighters, the majority of the department, have resigned.

“I would have expected the selectboard would have brought me in to a meeting and discussed it with me prior to deciding to let me go, but that hasn’t been the case."
