Bear Creek, NC, Fire Department Getting Additional Staffing, New Station

Starting Sunday, firefighters will be on duty around-the-clock at the Bear Creek station.

Changes are on the horizon at Bear Creek Fire Department.

On Sunday, firefighters will be on duty to provide service 24-hours a day to the Hubert area.

Onslow County Emergency Services Director Bradley Kinlaw told WNCT volunteers will still be part of the operation.

“We saw the need to push forward with this 24/7 staff. That doesn’t eliminate the need for volunteers they are very much still a big part of the Bear Creek Fire Department. We just needed we saw the need to get a truck out quicker."

A new station is expected to open next fall will be equipped with a generator in case of power failure and an emissions system as well as bunkrooms, a kitchen and a pantry.
