Pittsburgh Paramedic Suspended for Working at County Fire Academy, Resigns
A veteran Pittsburgh paramedic, suspended last week for working another job with a nearby jurisdiction, has resigned.
Paramedic John Hill. told WPXI that for 17 of his 31 years on the department, he worked other jobs, including being a police officer in another county.
Everyone knew, and didn't have an issue with it. And, it was widely known that for the past four years, he also taught part-time at the Allegheny County Fire Academy
A few weeks ago, Hill started working full-time at the training academy while maintaining his paramedic shifts. His supervisor was advised as well.
One day, he was asked to come in early to a shift at a Pittsburgh station. So, when he drove his marked county vehicle, it prompted an internal investigation.
He received a five-day suspension, pending termination from the city for allegedly violating a law that prohibits employees from working for another municipal government, the station reported.
Hill said he had plans to retire, but the city expedited his exit.
