Bar Visit on Duty Results in Termination for Three Nashville, TN, Firefighters
Three Nashville firefighters have been terminated after spending time at a bar while on duty.
The manager of Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row called Nashville Police saying he was concerned that three people -- believed to be firefighters -- were at the bar. They were wearing Nashville Fire Department t-shirts and carried yellow radios, The Tennessean reported.
Police wrote in their report the bartender was concerned about potential liability if they were on duty.
While the fire department has not divulged the nature of the incident that led to the termination, the police report is public information.
"The three individuals — identified as Mr. [Athams] Davis, Mr. [Griffin] Hunter, and Mr. [Daniel] Wrenn — exited the business and stood at the corner of 4th Ave N and Broadway. Lieutenant Cunningham and Sergeant Mitchell approached the group and asked whether they were on duty or off duty. All three individuals stated they were on duty," police wrote in the report.
Wrenn and Hunter graduated from the fire academy in April 2022, while Davis graduated in November 2024, according to graduation flyers from the department.
When asked if they had been drinking, the men denied it.
"Mr. Wrenn stated he had only consumed water. Mr. Hunter and Mr. Davis did not admit to consuming any beverages," the report said.
But the bartender told officers that she'd served them two vodka-Red Bull mixed drinks and a water.
A fire captain called to the bar by police immediately placed the three firefighters on administrative duty.
After an internal investigation of the Oct. 27 incident, the three were fired for misconduct.
Fire officials wrote in a statement: "The Nashville Fire Department holds all personnel to the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and conduct. Actions that compromise those standards are taken seriously and addressed accordingly," the statement said. "As this is a personnel matter, the department will not provide any additional details at this time."
