Garfield firefighters noticed something suspicious while extinguishing the fire in April.

A Passaic County woman was arrested Wednesday on charges she intentionally set a Garfield apartment on fire in April and fled without trying to extinguish or report the blaze, authorities said.

Allison G. Gutierrez-Tuesta, 25, set fires in two places inside an apartment on Passaic Street in Garfield on April 28, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.

After first-responders extinguished the flames, firefighters and police in Garfield notified the prosecutor’s office that the blaze appeared suspicious.

The prosecutor’s office did not say if Gutierrez-Tuesta, currently a Passaic resident, lived in the apartment at the time.

Gutierrez-Tuesta was charged with second-degree aggravated arson, third-degree arson, and fourth-degree failure to take a responsible measure to put out or control a fire.

She remained at the Bergen County Jail on Thursday ahead of a court hearing. Attorney information for Gutierrez-Tuesta was not listed in court or jail records.
