House Explosion Kills One, Injures Two in Wonder Lake, IL

The powerful blast, that remains under investigation, also damaged neighboring houses in Wonder Lake.

A fiery home explosion in far northwest suburban Wonder Lake left two injured and one dead Sunday night, fire officials said.

Fire crews were dispatched to the home around 8 p.m. and encountered an “active structure fire with significant damage and multiple victims,” according to a news release from the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District.

One individual was pronounced dead on the scene and two others were transported to local hospitals, including one who was airlifted, the release said.

Due to the severity of the incident, firefighters requested additional fire and EMS resources to help with the destruction and injuries. Two neighboring properties were also damaged by the fire.

According to the release, the cause of the explosion is unknown and remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
