At least two people were reported dead Thursday evening in a house explosion in southwest suburban Oswego, officials said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the Oswego Fire Protection District was called out to the 200 block of Fox Chase North for a report of a house explosion with people trapped. When crews arrived they found a two-story framed residence collapsed and fully engulfed, officials said.

Firefighters began extinguishing the flames, and immediately conducted searches for victims. NICOR also was called to the scene to cut off gas lines, officials said. After an extensive search, two victims were found in the debris, officials said.

Officials are investigating the cause of the explosion.
