Tire Fire Erupts Fla. Recycling Facility

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Firefighters are battling a large tire fire at a Port St. Lucie recycling facility. The fire erupted about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Florida Tire Recycling on Ridge Line Road. About two dozen firefighters were battling the flames, which was consuming about a half acre of the recycling facility. "We're dealing with a very hot fire," St. Lucie County Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.

The fire erupted about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Florida Tire Recycling on Ridge Line Road.

About two dozen firefighters were battling the flames, which was consuming about a half acre of the recycling facility.

"We're dealing with a very hot fire," St. Lucie County Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.

Chaney said the fire isn't in danger of spreading, but it will take several hours to contain the flames.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
