DETROIT --

A 5-year-old boy was pulled from a burning house on Detroit's east side early Monday morning.

Detroit Fire Chief Mike Gallo said the fire at the house on Gray Street was reported at 4:30 a.m.

"When we pulled up, it was pretty much fully involved," Gallo said. "The room that the child was in was probably the only room that wasn't on fire."

Gallo said firefighters found the boy on a bed in one of the rooms of the house.

"They got in and got him out right away," Gallo said.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital, where he was treated for smoke inhalation.

The boy's aunt and uncle, both 46, were also treated for smoke inhalation.

Other family members and friends arrived later Monday to see the damage the fire caused.

"Thanksgiving was just a couple weeks ago. I was over here eating dinner," said family friend Michelle Galimore. "For it to be this bad, it just makes me wonder if everybody's OK."

Family members said although the fire is devastating right before Christmas, they are grateful every one got out.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
