Jan. 11--A Darlington County man is dead after his home caught fire early Wednesday morning.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee has identified the body as Leroy Jacobs, 61, of the Centerville Community of Darlington County. Darlington County sheriff's investigators, along with SLED, are on the scene this morning going through the rubble. Official are looking for clues in to what may have started the fire.

Darlington County Fire Chief David Williams says the home at 2125 Value Drive was showing heavy fire and smoke when units arrived on the scene around 2:45 a.m.

Three stations were called in to fight the blaze.

"The fire was under control around 3:30 a.m. with more than 60 percent of the home burned," said Williams.

Firefighters later discovered a victim in the home. Hardee was called to the scene as well as investigators from the Darlington County Sheriff's Office and State Law Enforcement.

"At this point this is a fire investigation and not an arson investigation. It will take some time today to go through the debris to determine the cause and origin of the fire" said Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd.

The body was sent to Newberry for autopsy Wednesday, according to Coroner Hardee. The victim was the only person on the home at the time of the fire. No one else stayed in the mobile home.
