HANCOCK COUNTY — Two adults and two children were able to escape a house fire in the Catahoula community with their lives, but family members did suffer some injuries.
Hancock County Emergency Operations Director Bryan Adam said the fire was called in by a Lee Town Volunteer firefighter passing by the home at about 4:05 a.m. Thursday morning. The firefighter stopped and alerted the residents to the fire at the home located at 9205 Sellers Place.
Adam said the family consisted of 19-year-old Justin Hayes and 20-year-old Brec Hines along with two children aged one and two. Hayes and the children were able to get out of the home quickly, but Hayes went back into the home to get Hines. Hayes suffered burns to his legs and feet and is undergoing medical care at a burn center. The house was a total loss, Adam said. Hines and the children endured some smoke inhalation.
A cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office, Adam said.
