Propane Tanks Explode at Milwaukee Business

March 16, 2015
The incident at Acme Galvanizing happened as propane and acetylene tanks were being filled.

Employees escaped an explosion and fire at a Milwaukee plant.

An Acme Galvanizing worker said the incident took place as someone was filling the propane and acetylene tanks and one of the tanks ignited.

"I ran over with a fire extinguisher. It was too far gone at that point," employee John Trapp told The Milwaukee Journal.

Trapp said at that point they started evacuating. "We just got everybody out," he said.

Workers said they could hear the tanks exploding as they ran.

Mary Lou Boettcher, an office worker added: "I just saw all these guys running out and thought, 'Are they on strike. Somebody said, 'No it's a fire and we ran out.'"

No injuries were reported.
