A Bakersfield firefighter was called to a fire that destroyed his own home Thursday.
Lloyd “Punk” Stone was having breakfast when Bakersfield crews were dispatched to his Woodside Drive home at 8:21 a.m.
“I knew immediately it was either my house or my dad’s house that’s also on the property,” Punk told the Ozark County Times.
Punk - who has volunteered for almost 25 years - went to the fire station and drove a fire apparatus to the scene, but said flames had engulfed half the structure.
Firefighters from several area departments responded, but the were unable to save the one-story home.
Punk's wife was not home at the time of the fire and all of their belongings were destroyed.
“It’s a lot to process,” Punk said. "I just keep thinking if it had been four to five hours before, we would’ve been asleep in bed. Who knows what would’ve happened?”
