Four people, including two children, were killed in a house fire in Garland early Saturday.
Firefighters responded to the blaze around 1:16 a.m. at a one-story home in the 1400 block of Williams Drive near Garland Avenue. Five people were able to get out of the house, but four others were trapped inside, fire officials said.
A man, a woman and two small children visiting from Bridgeport, Texas, were sleeping in a bedroom at the back of the house. They have not been publicly identified.
Officials said the fire started in an enclosed back patio and does not appear to be intentional. The homeowner heard a "popping noise" before the blaze, officials said.
There was a fire detector in the hallway, but officials said it's unclear if it was working.
