Six Flags is temporarily closing nine rides across the country after a man died and several others were injured Monday in a roller coaster incident in Georgia.

Nine roller coasters across six other Six Flags have been temporarily closed “out of an abundance of caution,” a Six Flags spokesperson said Monday evening.

Witnesses said a man fell from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, around 10 miles west of downtown Atlanta.

“He fell and hit the car three different times” before falling onto the roof of a haunted house attraction below, a witness told CNN affiliate WXIA.

The Goliath roller coaster, per the Six Flags website, reaches a top speed of 70 mph and an elevation of 200 feet.

The park was open Monday for the Columbus Day holiday.

Detectives from the Cobb County Police’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, police said in a statement.

According to Coasterpedia, Goliath opened at the park on April 1, 2006. The ride, built by Bolliger & Mabillard, is 4,480 feet long and 200 feet tall and can reach speeds of 70 mph. Installing it was the park’s largest expansion since it opened.

Six Flags Over Georgia opened June 16, 1967, and covers about 290 acres in Cobb County. It was the second park in the Six Flags chain, after Six Flags Over Texas opened in 1961.
