SAN DIEGO -- An Encinitas woman is remembering and honoring her brother with a special dedication a year after he lost his life in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
David M. Weiss, a New York City Midtown Rescue 1 Company, lost his life trying to rescue others from the World Trade Center the day of the attacks. Michelle Little is spending the anniversary of her loss with her family, celebrating the life of her brother.
"To think it's been a year. It's not possible," said Michelle Little.
Just over a year ago, Little was standing outside the Rescue 1 firehouse in New York, bewildered but determined.
"I've got to do something, I don't know what that something is, but I know I've got to be here. I'll pull some buckets or something," said Little last year in New York.
Little now throws her energy into causes that help children and firefighters. She has organized the first annual firefighters burgers on the grill at New York's Pier 63.
"As the families watched a fireboat spray red white and blue into the air you could see firefighters sitting looking out and they were in awe. They weren't at the barbeque, they were somewhere else," said Little.
